Whenever I've used a gift certificate it has made me use the entire value in one order. If my order is more the amount of the cert is knocked off my order, if its less then i get my order for free but the certificate can't be used again.
From what you're saying you want people to be able to partially use a cert?
Remember its open source, so you can modify.
Few ways you could approach it, but a simple way would be to deplete the outstanding value on the coupon/certificate. I guess you'd probably want to store some history to show how it was spent (each different transaction, how much each depleted it) just in case a customer queries it. You might also modify the account page to show the coupon, and current remaining value on it.

Okay, I guess there's no gift card option with the system. Fell at the final fence...

Hi,
I'm trying to find a way to create a gift certificate (as opposed to a coupon, although the user guide says they're the same). I would like to offer the option to buy a certificate or coupon that the user can re-use and that will keep track of the amount spent. For example, if I were to receive a gift certificate for €50 and go to the shop and spend €30, I could re-use the certificate for the balance at a later date. Could you let me know how I could achieve this?
I understand that there's no way to sell a gift certificate online (according to a previous post) but I could have the code sent to the customer.
