Paul, you've hit the nail on the head.  I have exhausted all routes with Google hence posting here as a last resort.

Thanks for your help, if I get anywhere with it I'll be sure to post my resolution.

I think you need to raise it on the Google forums and hope that someone escalates it. It seems to me if they think the cache is the same as the live site, then what they are showing in their results isn't what they think is in the cache.

I am assuming even if you completely removed Kartris, you'd have the same problem... it's something that needs to be done at Google's end but being a big faceless company, I'm not sure how you get through to a human being when the system fails like this.

The webmaster index stats are showing an index yesterday although this does not specifically say that the default.aspx was indexed.

I've even tried deleting the cache through google but still the error remains (google Mellcrest and you'll see what is displaying).  Google denied the cache removal stating that the live version is the same so that the removal of the cache would make no difference.

It's very strange and customers are calling us rather than using the website which is causing us major issues.

Google generally visits every few days; we find it typically picks up new content and links within a week or so of updates, and often quicker. Does seem strange for it to hold cached content like that for so long. Does it show a last index date for that page?

This is probably not a Kartris issue per se but I'm wondering if anyone has had similar problems and can offer advice.

A couple of months ago our website failed and the home page displayed the Oh Dear error message.  We resolved the issue within the day but Google musy have indexed out site that day.

As a result our Google listing is displaying this error message under the link to our page.
I have tried forcing a re-index through Webmaster tools but the error is still there.

Has anyone experienced anything similar?
