Cannot add more than one version

In the Kartris back-end, on several of my products, I do not have the "New" button on the versions tab to create new versions.   Why isn't this button showing up?

Most likely, the product type selected when creating the item was 'single version product' or possibly an 'options' product. Both of these only allow a single version.
